Forbes releases annual list of the NHL’s richest franchises

Forbes has released its annual evaluation of the NHL’s richest franchises.

While players such as John Tavares, Carey Price and Connor McDavid are slated to make $15-million during the 2018-2019 season, the Forbes list makes it clear those amounts are only a fraction of what the teams they play for are worth.

On Tuesday, the NHL announced its newest franchise in Seattle, whose owners had to pay $650-million to join the league. That’s up $150-million from the price tag Vegas payed for only two years ago.

According to Forbes’ list, the New York Rangers are the most valuable team in the NHL, with a total valuation of $1.55-billion.

In second is the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise worth $1.45-billion, followed by the Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks.

The Vancouver Canucks saw their franchise value increase by 1% for a total worth of $735-million, making them the ninth most valuable franchise in the league.

Here’s the full list of NHL franchise valuations, according to Forbes:
