The Okanagan College Coyotes men’s basketball team got a promising preview of what the regular season could hold as they hosted the Medicine Hat Rattlers for exhibition play on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, The Coyotes defeated the Rattlers 88-83. The team was led by the dynamic duo of returning big man Curtis Wilson and new star Derian Valdes. Both Wilson and Valdes scored 25 points.
Sunday was much of the same as the Coyotes won 87-79. This game featured a balanced attack as the team had five different players score double-digit points. Returning captain Jeff Tubbs and new recruit Hunter Hughes led the way with 14 points each.
Coyotes’ coach Dino Gini explained that the game had a playoff feel and they would use these games as an opportunity to evaluate moving forward.
“The games were just a great way to evaluate where we are at and what we have to work on going forward. I thought we played with a lot of energy and we showed our depth,” said Gini. “Thank you to everyone that came out, we appreciate your support.”
Up next the Coyotes men’s and women’s teams will play games this Friday and Saturday against Ambrose University. The women play at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday while the men play and 8 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday games will be played at Kelowna Secondary School while Sunday games are at the Okanagan College Penticton campus.
