Penny Oleksiak becomes Canada's most decorated summer Olympian after winning bronze in Tokyo

Swimmer Penny Oleksiak made Canadian history on Tuesday after adding another medal to her mighty collection.

The 21-year-old Torontonian became the joint-most decorated Canadian summer Olympian of all time when she bagged bronze in the 200-metre freestyle race.

She now has six medals and ties with Cindy Klassen and Clara Hughes for the nation’s biggest haul.

Oleksiak’s time was 1:54.70, just behind second-place Siobhan Bernadette Haughey from Hong Kong (1:53.92) and Ariarne Titmus from Australia(1:53.50).

Later today, Oleksiak could go one further and stand alone as Canada’s most decorated Olympian if she takes a medal in the 4x200 freestyle relay.

She told CBC: “I’m not done yet.”

Canada is currently sitting on nine medals in Tokyo.
