Going wire to wire with a second-place team finishes in all four tournaments the UBC Okanagan Heat women's golf team captured the conference silver medal after the final PACWEST tournament at the Ledgeview Golf Club in Abbotsford, BC this past weekend.
The women's squad would finish second in the UFV Invitational with the UBCO twosome of McKenna Lesiuk and Emily Adams shooting (88-83/171), (87-90/177) respectively on the par-70 course, finishing fourth and fifth individually overall in the outing.
Finish as the second place team in the conference earns the squad a berth in the 2017 PING CCAA Golf National Championships hosted by Durham College. For the four tournaments, McKenna Lesiukled the team with a total score of 674 to finish in fourth place individually. Not far behind was fourth-year human kinetics student Emily Adams, who had a score of 698 for the four tournaments. The UFV Cascades would win the women's team title with a score of 1244. The National Championships will take place at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club, Oct. 17-20, 2017 in Oshawa, Ont.
After not qualifying for the national tournament last season, the Heat will return to the championship event for the first time since 2015-16 - where the women's team finished as national silver medalists. Emily Adams was a member of the squad in 2015 that earned the medal at the Chilliwack Golf and Country Club.
