Rain began to fall in the Okanagan on the morning of Saturday, August 29th, and it is forecasted to continue in Kelowna and Kamloops throughout the week.
Showers are predicted for every day until Wednesday, and a 30 per cent chance of showers has also been reported by Environment Canada for Thursday in Kelowna, while Kamloops may see some sunshine again on that day.
Temperatures are not expected to top 22 degrees in either city between Saturday the 19th and Friday, September 4th, and lows will hover around eleven degrees.
The rain, however, may not have much of an impact on fires burning in the area. This is partly because winds can counteract them and partly because of the amount of rain that is needed for an impact to be felt.

Heather Rice of B.C. Wildfire Service has said that three to five millimetres of rain must fall in a one to three hour period in order for a fire fight to see much benefit. Earlier on Saturday, only approximately 1 millimetre came down.
“We are hoping that the cooler temperatures will assist our efforts, but currently rain is not something that I think is going to help us in the long run, with the current forecast,” said Rice on Saturday afternoon.
Environment Canada’s Air Quality Health Index also indicates that smoke will remain in the Central Okanagan throughout Saturday and Sunday. The forecast maximum is for a moderate health risk of five throughout both days.
