Well, it was fun while it lasted.
The smoke started to disappear on Thursday night, treating Kelowna residents to an actual glimpse of blue sky for the first time in nearly two weeks.
It even got down below three on the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI), which is considered a ‘low’ health risk.
Before Thursday night, the last time the air quality was that good was at 3 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, so people were quite excited about the changes.
However, as quickly as the smoke started to fade away, it has settled back into the Okanagan Valley and once again the air quality is quite poor.
Between 11 p.m. on Thursday and 3 a.m. today, Kelowna’s AQHI raised from a two to an eight, or a ‘low’ health risk to a ‘very high’ one.
Currently, it sits at a seven, which is a ‘high’ health risk, but it’s expected to get up to a 10+, the highest possible number, and stay that way through tomorrow at least.
Hopefully you got outdoors and enjoyed the blue sky on Thursday night, because the smoke could be back for the weekend.
