There are two weather alerts issued for Sunday, July 23rd.
Smoke in the area is expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility. The forecast is also calling for windy and unsettled weather across the B.C. interior.
The Ministry of Environment and Interior Health has issued a Smoky Skies Bulletin for the following areas: Kinbasket, North Columbia, West Columbia, East Columbia, Yoho Park - Kootenay Park, Elk Valley, East Kootenay, Arrow Lake - Slocan Lake, Kootenay Lake, West Kootenay, Boundary, Okanagan, Similkameen, Nicola, South Thompson, Shuswap, North Thompson, 100 Mile, Cariboo (North and South), and Chilcotin.
A cold front is expected to develop over the Cariboo region this afternoon, moving southeast in the late afternoon and evening. Strong northerly or westerly wind of up to 60 km/h will develop across most of the interior regions.
Isolated thunderstorms are also expected to develop across the Columbia and Kootenay regions this afternoon and evening. Brief showers with strong gusts of up to 80 km/h are expected with the thunderstorms.
According to B.C. Wildfire Service, these conditions are expected to pose challenges to efforts to contain wildfires currently burning across B.C.
