Fans of the Streaming Café were saddened to hear that after 500 shows the doors would be closing forever, but they may be excited to learn who will be taking over the space.
According to Chris Wills with Colliers Kelowna, the owners of The Little Hobo Soup and Sandwich Shop, Crystal Dougan and Stephen MacDonald, have taken over the Streaming Café location and will be moving shop. The Hobo will be moving from their current location on Lawrence Avenue down the street to Leon Avenue on Oct. 1, 2016.
According to Crystal and Steve, they have grown out of their current space and it is time to move on to bigger and better things. They will be bringing back their customer favourites such as burgers and breakfast as a result of the move.
Construction is currently underway at the new location and Wills says the shop will not be closed while the change over occurs. The new location will offer patrons a patio area, more seating and more variety as a new commercial kitchen will be installed.
“The owner of the building is very excited to backfill the popular Streaming Cafe with such an amazing local business! It was very important to the property owners (and me as the leasing agent) to replace the previous tenant with a business that will bring the same great energy to that corner,” said Wills.
Crystal and Steve say they are excited and scared for this next chapter but thank everyone for their ongoing support over the years to make the move possible. For July, August and September the doors will remain open at the current location and a big grand re-opening is expected when the Hobo moves into its new home.
The Hobo opened its doors in 1975 and was purchased by the couple in 2011.
