The owners of a pair of the most popular spots to eat in Kelowna will soon be opening up a new restaurant.
Audrey Surrao and Chef Rod Butters, who own RauDZ Regional Table and Micro Bar & Bites, are adding to their restaurant portfolio with a new modern diner.
The diner will be called Sunny’s Modern Diner, after the pair’s shared golden retriever, and it will open at 235 Bernard Ave. this spring.
“I’ve wanted to do a diner concept for many years and when this space on the revitalized Bernard Avenue so close to the lake became available it was perfect timing to expand our culinary creativity,” said Chef Butters.
Sunny’s will be in a long and narrow space, located in between Moo-Lix Ice Cream and Bacaro Kitchen & Drink, framed by reclaimed brick wall and a wooden roof.
Tim Bullinger of Arca 3 Design Studio is in charge of turning the space into a nostalgic diner with a modern twist.
There will be a 16-seat stainless steel eating counter, with views of the traditional diner open kitchen.
The rest of the restaurant will feature 30 seats, which expands to 44 when the weather is warm enough for the patio to be open.
The menu will only feature breakfast and lunch until the long days of summer arrive, at which point a dinner menu will be added.
Chef Butters will lead the culinary team with a fresh and innovative take on diner fare and a menu that features all sorts of diner lingo.
An order of ‘Cluck and Grunt’ will get you eggs and bacon, while ‘Two Cows, make em cry’ will fetch you a double stack burger with onions.
