In Focus | Sheri-lee Voigt

Meet Sheri-lee Voigt. She was born in Nakusp, BC and has lived in Kelowna for six years!

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My family Kenny, Tess and Ryder. They teach me how to stay grounded. They remind me each day that little moments matter whether we are laughing or sharing time hiking or communicating about our day. It is important to slow down and take each moment in.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Natures Fair. They are always so helpful and full of knowledge. Great healthy choices!

Describe yourself in one word.
Grateful!

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Bali, to soak in the yoga and culture as well as to seek out spiritual growth and adventure!

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Love everything the Okanagan has to offer! Biking, hiking, boating, kayaking, skiing, rock climbing. Everything ending in "ing" basically!

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Going to Disney Land with my family. We were on stage dancing and Disney was filming us live and my friend's dad saw us on the big screen. He came down and pulled us off the stage right in front of everyone.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Watching a couple of my close friends battle cancer and seeing the strength in their spirit to beat it. It also taught me to be grateful for what I have each day especially my health.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Growing up on an acreage with 15 horses in Nakusp. Doing trail rides up to the natural hot springs. Pretending to be Wonder Woman using binder twine as my lasso. Having the freedom and the courage at six years old to go and explore backyard that was full of bears, creeks, frogs and adventures! This time really gave me an appreciation for nature.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I am currently working on an Anti Bullying project that will include working with school kids combining information and exercise to help kids that are being bullied as well as kids who are doing the bullying. My goal is to create an awareness of how each child can build within themselves the tools to cease bullying whether it is happening to them or they are the ones that are doing the bullying.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
End war. I would hope someday that we can stop fighting and losing innocent lives. I truly wish that we can all lead with love to better ourselves and the world we live in.

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
I would have to say enjoying a coffee on one of our beautiful beaches to watch the sun rise. Also I love Sparkling Hills Resort!

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I would like to see more housing and solutions for the homeless. It would be so great to help people to better their lives and get them working on a drive and a purpose for their lives and help get them off the streets.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The people of the community make it a great place to live and raise a family. Love the beauty and activities the Okanagan offers for all the seasons!

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Help put an end to bullying
2. Create my own online coaching program and be able to work anywhere in the world so that I can travel with my family
3. Learn how to scuba dive

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I was close to being a stunt woman as a career.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Facebook and Linkedln.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Sheri-lee Voigt Life Coaching & Fitness.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I have always loved helping others. Combining life coaching and fitness allows me to train my clients physically and mentally. I love helping people to help themselves to lead a healthy balanced life. This is truly rewarding to me.

What is the goal of your business?
My goal is to help people to create a better balance in their lives through life coaching and fitness. Recognizing old patterns that are not working and replacing them with healthy patterns that will create the change needed for a better quality of living.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
I was bullied as a child for being overweight. It has had a huge impact throughout my life. Most of my younger years were battling eating disorders and having low self-esteem. I have grown from this and gotten stronger within myself.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I love where my life is at now so I would have to say the same but moving forward takes all my lessons learned and keep moving forward!

What do you always find yourself saying?
Things always have a way of working out you just need to trust in the process.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Be grateful for each moment in your life. Practicing being thankful throughout your day in each moment creates an awareness and an appreciation for life.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Jackie Chan. Love this guy! It would be so much fun to be on set running through stunt work. Also, love Tony Robbins.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
To support our community and local business owners.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Raising my two kids and watching how they are turning out. I love how kind and caring they both are.
