Ryan Lee recently moved here from Ontario in order to serve as Relationship Manager at Paradigm Mortgage Corporation. Paradigm Mortgage is one of Western Canada's largest and most respected alternative lenders and Mortgage Investment Corporations. Ryan brings a positive outlook to everything that he does, seeking to infuse life in and outside of work with passion. Ryan clearly loves being a father and has seen that shape a lot of who he is. What do you always find yourself saying?
'Thank you'. I have been blessed in my life both personally and in business and I have a lot of people to thank for that, so I do.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select and why?
Richard Branson. A few years ago I had the opportunity to meet and chat with him briefly. His generosity, yet maintained business focus is remarkable. I would love an entire day.

If you were to receive any existing public award, what award would you like to win?
Father of the Year. – does that exist?

If you could spend a day with any historical figure, who would you choose and why?
My initial thought was Winston Churchill for the entertainment value but I would actually choose John Maynard Keynes. I realize it seems boring to choose one of the most influential economists of the 20^th century, but he was such an influential part of my education at University. It would be interesting to actually discuss business cycles, free markets, recessions and depressions with him in person given our turbulent world economy right now.

Who inspires you?
My Kids! I have three amazing little girls. My 2-year-old makes me laugh every day. My 4-year-old melts my heart every day. My 7-year-old impresses me every day. They keep me going.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
To see my three daughters happy, healthy and with someone they love and loves them back.

If you had an enormous yacht, what would you name it?
'Obnoxious'.

If you could foresee a single day of your future in its entirety, what date would you select?
This may sound morbid but I’ve thought about this before, it would be my last day. I imagine that is when your life’s regrets become clear. I would like to foresee them and make changes.

What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about always having something to be passionate about. Life would be boring otherwise.

What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
My wedding day. It was the day I knew for sure that she wasn’t kidding when she said she loved me. It was official and now forever. Most of my other favorites have happened since then.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Becoming a father. It may seem cliché but so much of what I am and who I want to become is a direct result of knowing they look up to me. Having them made me a better person and is easily my greatest accomplishment. I hope to have many close seconds but this will remain tops.

Where is your favourite place to dine in Kelowna? What do you like about it?
Home. The best food and the best company. Plus with 3 young kids, dining out is work.

What is your favourite activity or event in Kelowna? Why?
Mountain biking (preferably going down, not up the hill)

We are a private lender and mortgage investment corporation (MIC), one of BC’s largest and longest standing. We provide a consistent positive return on investment through a diversified portfolio of mortgages secured by real estate in Western Canada. What is your mission?
To provide a safe, consistent, long term positive investment that will outlive our children while contributing value to property owners and mortgage brokers in Western Canada.

If you could achieve one thing within your field, what would it be?
Licensed Professional Mortgage Brokers provide high value to their clients but their value proposition is often not understood. I would like to be a champion for their services and increase their profile and share of the mortgage market.

Where do you want your business/organization to be in 5 years?
The path we are on right now is an admirable one. I want us to extend our reach while helping the community and our business partners grow. In a sentence though; In 5 years I want Paradigm Mortgage to be seen as the first solution for alternative lending and valued partner for mortgage brokers across western Canada, while preserving and growing our investors wealth for generations.

Who do you consider to be a forerunner within your field?
With nearly two decades in our field, combined with our incredibly experienced and expanding team of diversified professionals, I can confidently say Paradigm is.

How does your business/organization impact the community?
As I mentioned before, we encourage home ownership and help small business thrive in the community. We help business owners, individuals and families get into, or stay in their homes. We help find solutions.

If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?
Let’s start with a wealthy elevator technician. Add in a real estate professional and a value based Investment Advisor. I would ask them what was important to them in their lives, in their investments, in their community. I actually don’t think I would spend much time talking to them about anything – but I would listen to every word they said!

If I could change 1 thing about Kelowna, it would be:
I love to ride the trails on my mountain bike but it seems that for every 15 seconds of exciting downhill, I need to climb for 30 minutes. I’d like to talk to someone about changing that.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
As a new resident to Kelowna, having recently moved here from Ontario, I would have to say the surroundings. For the most part, I mean the outdoors but I would also include the great people and businesses I meet every day. My daughters would say the ice cream truck that prowls our neighborhood.
