Big White to Host Team BC Training Camp

The official host mountain for Team BC's Alpine Ski Training camp is none other than Big White.

The training camp will be three days long, preparing the Team BC Alpine Ski Racers U16 for the 2015 Canada Winter Games. “We are thrilled to host the camp here at Big White,” says Michael Ballingall, Senior Vice President of Big White Ski Resort. Ballinghall says that Big White's Telus Park ski cross track had a major impact in the team's decision to hold the camp there. The track was designed by Big White's own Flynn Seddon. Big White also offered to host other activities for the visiting athletes both on and off the slopes.

The alpine team will have B.C.'s top seven male and top seven female alpine ski racers that are under the age of 16. These racers will be decided on in mid-January after a series of qualifying races, one of which—the Western Ski Cross Series race—will be held at Big White.

Big White isn't just a host, however. It's also offering some of its top talent to the camp. Of the three coaches assisting in training, one is Wade Christie, a local U16 coach from Big White Racers. Additionally, Olympic silver medalist and Big White Racers grad Kelsey Serwa is Team BC's honorary captain.

“I remember the pride I felt representing my province as part of Team BC in 2007,” says Serwa. “I am looking forward to sharing my experiences with the 2015 athletes and cheering on Team BC to a fantastic performance!”

Including the 14 alpine ski racers that will be training at Big White, Team BC will send 350 athletes to Prince George for the 2015 Canada Winter Games from February 13 to March 1.
