Kelowna Firefighters Respond to Minor Fire

A minor fire on Sunday could have been a lot worse but thanks to quick thinking firefighters and special equipment no one is left homeless.

At around 7:40 p.m. on November 16th the Kelowna Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in the carport of a single story, multi family residence. When crews arrived at 2591 Highway 97 North they quickly extinguished the fire and used their Thermal Imaging Camera to check for heat and fire within the walls.

Having used this special piece of equipment, firefighters were able to find hot spots without having to pull down walls and cause significant damage to the home. A heating cable and extension cord had over heated causing the small fire. Two people were home at the time but no injuries have been reported.

The Kelowna Fire Department reminds everyone this time of year to properly use extension cords, heating cables and electric heaters.
