An 11-year-old boy has been killed by two “very large dogs” in Edmonton, police have said.

It happened on Monday night just before 8 pm, according to Edmonton Police Service.

“Upon arrival, officers located a severely injured 11-year-old boy who had been attacked by two very large dogs,” police explained in a news release.

“Police attempted lifesaving measures until EMS attended the scene very shortly after and ultimately declared the child deceased.”

The dogs were seized by animal control officers, police added.

They said the dogs belong to an unidentified person who lives at the home, near 82 Street and 11 Avenue SW, that the boy was visiting.

Police said they are investigating and that an autopsy is planned for Wednesday.

No further details were provided.
