The House of Commons has adopted a Tory motion declaring that Justin Trudeau must hold an “emergency meeting” about the carbon tax with premiers.
The motion, which is non-binding, was put forward by Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre on Tuesday.
It insists that the prime minister meet with all 13 premiers to discuss “the ongoing carbon tax crisis and the financial burden it places on Canadians.”

The motion passed today after the Conservatives were supported by NDP and Quebec nationalist MPs. The vote passed 172 to 150.
The meeting must be televised, according to the motion.
It comes after months of disagreement about the controversial policy across the political spectrum.
Several premiers, including Alberta’s Danielle Smith and Newfoundland and Labrador’s Andrew Furey, have urged the prime minister to meet with them to discuss the tax.
It also demands the prime minister discuss “plans for provinces to opt-out of the federal carbon tax to pursue other responsible ideas to lower emissions.”
The meeting must be held within five weeks, according to the motion.
Trudeau, who has been testifying at the foreign interference inquiry today, has yet to comment.
