How the Matched Savings Program is changing the lives of financially disadvantaged individuals

Launch Okanagan is on a mission to equip economically disadvantaged individuals with financial literacy through the Matched Savings program.

For the past 10 years, this program has been helping participants reach their full potential through financial education, mentorship and incentives so they can move forward positively, build a sustainable future and better understand their money.

The Launch a Life fundraiser is in full swing to raise money for the program so it can continue to help individuals who can benefit from learning more about budgeting their money.

Here’s what the program is all about and what donations support:

Individuals in the year-long program participate in a monthly financial education program where they learn how to manage their personal finances and develop their skills, knowledge, abilities and confidence when it comes to decision-making and money management habits.

Throughout the program, approved participants save $25 to $50 towards their end-of-year goal with the help of program leaders, working towards earning a financial grant with a maximum value of $1,800 as an incentive.

Upon completion, the participant's savings are matched with $3 to each $1 saved and they earn a grant that can only go towards their education, an RESP for young family members, starting a small business, tools for a trade or RDSP contributions.

Participants might be a single parent, a family living paycheque to paycheque or someone wanting to go back to school. Everyone in need of help is included, encouraged and supported.

The program is fuelled by generous personal and corporate donations. Funds are maximized and put towards launching each participant’s life forward.

Past graduates sing extremely high praises about the Matched Savings program noting the financial skill-building and the positivity they experienced. Their relationship with money changed, they became more confident in their own abilities and improved their overall self-esteem in day-to-day life.

This program is truly transformative and life-changing for people who are at a disadvantage and struggling to manage their finances, allowing them to build a brighter, more sustainable future.

Every donation makes a difference and helps the Matched Savings program continue to offer its services to the community and launch lives forward.

As a big supporter of financial literacy and community, local developer and builder Highstreet made a personal donation of $5,000 towards the program.
