Move to Cure ALS event raises over $44,000

June 11, Kelowna took another significant stride in the fight against ALS.

The Move to Cure ALS event saw over 140 community members come together, raising an outstanding $44,000 to support ALS patients across BC and Project Hope.

Each participant proudly donned purple shirts as a moving tribute to their loved ones impacted by ALS. The sea of purple, the official colour of ALS awareness, was a touching sight and perfectly highlighted the aim of the event - raising awareness.

The significance of the day was further magnified by the City of Kelowna proclaiming June 11 as ALS Awareness Day.

This was announced by City Councillor Loyal Wooldridge, who also recognized the tireless efforts of the event organizers, Nancy Arbuckle and Louise Gauthier, by presenting them with City of Kelowna pins as a token of appreciation for their outstanding volunteer efforts.

The gathering was marked by a series of festive activities, including a walk to the Sails followed by a BBQ put on by the Westside Lions. Generous food donations were provided by local partners, Save-On-Foods and Safeway. The Silent Auction and 50/50 also added to the excitement and the funds raised.

A standout moment that fit in with the spirit of the event was Sasha's impromptu tribute performance with the Zamboni Brothers, a heartwarming ode to her grandfather who is living with ALS.

The success of the inspiring event is owed to the incredible group of volunteers and local sponsors who showed their unwavering support. These teams, as always, were the backbone of the event, without who this wonderful event would not have been possible

The day was meticulously captured by volunteer photographers, Ian Stewart and Kosei Okajima, whose pictures reflect the unity, determination and hope that underline this event, year after year.

The Move to Cure ALS event, as always, was a testament to the resilience of our community and the collective will to make a difference.
