The YMCA to host 'Child Care Day of Hiring' in early August

The YMCA of Okanagan is looking for caring and enthusiastic individuals to join their team as part of their Child Care Division and will be holding a Day of Hiring on Wednesday, August 5 both virtually, and at the Pandosy Street YMCA in the Mission.

The event is open to individuals 18 years of age or older who have an interest in working within the rewarding child support and care services field. Education and certifications aren’t needed for all positions as training will be provided.

A variety of unique opportunities are available, including supervisors, program leaders, pre-school teachers and more in Kelowna, West Kelowna and Penticton. Interested candidates are encouraged to register for a virtual interview (by emailing work@ymcaokanagan.ca) or to come with a resume in hand ready for an onsite interview.

“When you work with children it is about relationship building, getting to their level and recognizing them as the unique individuals that they are,” said Danielle Miranda, General Manager of Child Care.

“If this is something you believe that you have the ability and desire to do, and you want to work as part of a team that cares about its people, then the YMCA of Okanagan is the place you need to be,” she added.

While the Day of Hiring is looking to fill six specific positions in Child Care, Miranda says that taking any position within the organization can be a start to an exciting career in many fields.

“I don’t know if the general public really understands how in-depth the Y can provide with training, paid education and support in trying multiple positions — it is often a launching pad for discovering what niche you are really interested in,” she said.

“It is a dynamic organization, we have had staff start in the child care division and realize they might have a passion for fitness — so it is interesting for people to know that a job with the Y can often go down different avenues and provide different opportunities.”

In addition to providing the opportunity to work in a dynamic and exciting environment, the Y is also flexible when it comes to schedules — with opportunity for both full and part-time work available. A positive work-life balance is a key part of the culture at the YMCA of Okanagan.

“Whether you are in university and wanting to fill up some blocks to make extra cash, or are looking for a lifelong career, we will work with you to make sure your expectations are met,” said Miranda.

The YMCA is a leader in Child Care and offers an inclusive community where kids can have fun, find support, make friends and reach their full potential.

The Y’s approach to child care is unique. They believe that ensuring a sound basis for healthy child development and success begins with play, and their child care programs give kids exactly that — space to run, dance, jump, and explore — a place where kids can be kids!

At the Y, you'll find a group of caring and dedicated staff who make every day a special day for your child.
