Toy maker Hasbo has created a wonky looking Mr. Potato Head to help raise money and awareness for a food waste charity.
The limited edition Mr. Potato Head underwent the makeover for FareShare, a UK charity that aims to support communities to relieve food poverty. They redistribute surplus products from the food and drink industry to organizations that work with disadvantaged and vulnerable people.
The toy was sold through an online auction on Ebay and every penny raised will go to support FareShare.
In 2014, it was estimated that Canada wastes $27 billion worth of food, that’s equivalent to 30 to 40 per cent of the food produced each year. The waste comes from bad habits such as excess purchases, infrequent purchases, date codes, attitudes towards food and over-preparation.
