(UPDATE: June 1 @ 7:20 pm) - Hwy 3 has reopened after a lengthy closure east of Kamloops.
No further information has been released regarding the fatal crash Thursday morning that shut down the route.
(Original story: June 1 @ 10:35 am) - Hwy 3 has been closed since early this morning and it’s expected to remain that way for several hours as investigators probe a fatal crash.
According to the BC Highway Patrol, the incident happened around 7 am around 15 kilometres east of Cranbrook.
Two passenger vehicles and a commercial vehicle were involved. The number of fatalities is unknown at this time.
The BCHP’s Cranbrook branch has assumed conduct of the investigation with assistance from Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement and WorkSafeBC.
“The investigation is in the very early stages and information is subject to change,” said BCHP Cpl. Mike Moore.

The STAR-1 air ambulance was dispatched from Calgary to help respond to the fatal crash just minutes after it happened this morning.
A professional truck driver near the scene reported that the commercial vehicle involved was a logging truck that crossed the centre line after one of its tires blew out.
Photos of the incident show the truck overturned and its load of logs spilled into the ditch beside the highway.
