Man charged for trying to attack a city employee with a knife in small BC town

A city worker in a small BC town was attacked by a man allegedly wielding a knife on Sunday.

At about 5:30 pm, a Grand Forks RCMP officer responded to the town’s Gyro Park for a call from a community safety officer who said a man had just tried to attack him with a knife.

Fortunately, the man was unsuccessful and the city worker was not injured.

“We are very relieved that no one was hurt in this attack and credit the Community Safety Officer for his swift actions in keeping himself from being injured or worse,” said Sgt. Darryl Peppler.

“While attacks like this are not common, they are a reminder of the dangers that people who work in the public can face.”

Unfortunately, the man reportedly turned his attention to the employee’s vehicle and smashed out all the windows and caused an estimated $5,500 in damage.

When officers arrived on the scene they were able to quickly arrest the 41-year-old suspect.

Andre Robert Conn has been charged with one count of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and one count of mischief to property.

Although initial charges have been approved, the RCMP are still investigating the incident.

A release from the RCMP says that once all materials and evidence are gathered, charges may be modified or additional ones may be recommended.
