A Kelowna construction worker had an eventful morning after attempting to help a police officer during an assault.
The witness spoke to KelownaNow and said he was working on a construction site beside the Okanagan Military Museum on Ellis Street when he heard a crash. Because of his first aid training, the witness went to the scene hoping to help. The collision was between a silver Volvo and a Kelowna RCMP vehicle.
The witness said as he entered the scene he saw a man get out of the silver Volvo and walk over to the driver-side window of the police cruiser. The man who was driving the silver car then proceeded to lean through the open drivers-side window and assault the police officer.
The construction worker said he managed to pull the suspect off of the police officer and restrain him. Members of the RCMP were quickly on scene, and the suspect and the assaulted officer were both treated by emergency services.
The witness said he was shaken by the whole incident but hopes everyone involved is okay.
Ellis Street between Bernard and Doyle was blocked off while RCMP assessed the scene.
