Kelowna’s third annual Queer Zine Fair is being hosted by Kelowna Museums Society and the University of British Columbia Okanagan Library at the beautiful Laurel Packinghouse from 5-8 pm on June 4.
The event is an annual collaboration which draws exhibitors and visitors from across BC and the Okanagan to celebrate the niche craft from local queer creatives.

Zines (as in “magazine”) are often hand-made small-batch booklets and have been a powerful underground and DIY medium of expression, advocacy, and connection in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community since the ‘70s.
They are self-published written, illustrated and collaged publications that can cover a wide range of topics, including personal narratives, art, poetry, politics, music and more.
At 8:15 PM, the fair will be followed by an open mic where attendees and exhibitors will be invited to further share their creativity.
Sign up at the event to share spoken word, music, comedy, or read passages from your zines aloud. Food is welcome at the venue; tables will be set up during the fair and open mic.
The Laurel Packinghouse is located at 1304 Ellis St., Kelowna. The Queer Zine Fair is free for everyone. Tickets are not necessary and more details can be found on the Kelowna Museum’s website.
Queer artists, writers, and creatives can sign up for free to exhibit, sell or trade their zines for free at this link.
