Swinging with the Stars: Supporting a Cause Close to the Heart

Swinging with the Stars, an exciting community event in support of the Central Okanagan Hospice Association (COHA), is just around the corner. For the first time, local community member Paula Quinn is stepping up to dance for a cause that’s dear to her heart. "It’s scary, but I’m excited," Paula shared, acknowledging the courage it takes to participate in such a lively event while raising funds for an incredible organization.

The Central Okanagan Hospice Association provides end-of-life care and emotional support for individuals and their families. "The staff is incredible," Paula said, highlighting how the services go beyond care during a loved one’s last days. COHA offers grief counseling, art therapy, and ongoing emotional support, all free of charge, thanks to the generous donations that fund these essential services.

Paula’s involvement with COHA has been longstanding. "I’ve been a huge supporter for the last couple of years," she explained, having attended multiple fundraising events and seeing firsthand the impact of COHA’s work. When she was invited to participate in Swinging with the Stars, she didn’t hesitate. "I thought, how much fun would that be? And it’s all for a great cause," Paula said.

The event, which will take place on February 22nd, is sold out, with teams and individuals already in full fundraising mode. Paula's team, Rhythm Dream, has set a goal to raise $25,000. While there’s still work to be done, Paula’s efforts have already raised over $1,600. To help meet the goal, Paula is hosting a fundraising event on January 24th at Sandhill Winery, where attendees can enjoy line dancing, food, a cash bar, and a raffle with fantastic prizes. Tickets are available for $50, and even those who can’t attend can participate in the raffle, with prizes including a private dinner for four and a two-night stay at the El Dorado.

Paula has been working hard to prepare for the dance, practicing three times a week with her talented instructors Maddie and Jen. Despite challenges with her knees, Paula is determined to give it her all. "It’s not easy, but it’s going to be so much fun. We’re bringing some British roots into the routine, so it’s going to be a blast!" she said.

With just a month to go until the event, Paula is eager to reach her fundraising goal and help support the life-changing work of COHA. "If you’ve ever needed the services of the hospice, you know how incredible their care is," Paula emphasized. "It’s a cause that truly makes a difference."

The Swinging with the Stars event promises to be an unforgettable evening, filled with dancing, fun, and community support. If you’re unable to attend, consider supporting Paula’s fundraising efforts in any way you can. Every little bit helps reach the goal and ensures that the Central Okanagan Hospice Association can continue providing its vital services to the community.
