Every once in a while, a popular food chain will make a menu decision that simply doesn’t sit well with customers.
That happened for McDonald’s Canada in 2015 when the fast-food chain discontinued the popular Smarties McFlurry.
There was national outcry on social media and a pair of online petitions advocating for the treat’s return to the menu.
Despite people’s best efforts, the decision was not reversed, but it’s six years later and Smarties fans are finally getting their favourite McFlurry back.
“The McFlurry is a Canadian icon,” said Jeff Anderson, senior manager of culinary innovation for McDonald’s Canada
“It was invented in Bathurst, NB in 1995 and we are so proud to bring back the Smarties McFlurry so Canadians can enjoy their favourite treat once again.”
The Smarties McFlurry will rejoin the menu and be offered alongside the existing Skor- and Oreo-flavoured McFlurries.
McDonald's Canada also has a Cadbury Creme Egg-flavoured McFlurry on the menu at this time.
