A famous comedian is showing you can overcome obstacles and still find success.
Darryl Lenox lives with a visual impairment, which promoters insist has enhanced his comedy routine.
After years of stand-up comedy success, Lenox put everything he had into shooting his own hour-long special, Blind Ambition.
He’s one of North America’s top stand-up comedians and he’s bringing his new 20/20 tour the Kelowna Community Theatre on Friday April 22, 2016.
Lenox almost lost all of the vision in both of his eyes years ago in a Canadian bar brawl, but thanks to a doctor and an extremely risky eye surgery, he did not.
“The risk we had to take to do my major eye surgery - the one that could have left me totally blind - it propelled me to take the risk on Blind Ambition,” Lenox explained.
“The doctor that performed the surgery is my hero - it was incredibly inspiring. I knew after that experience that my days of waiting on people were over.”
During the show Lenox speaks about the possibility of never seeing again, the depression he felt and the thoughts of suicide that came with his depression. Even though the topics are sometimes deep in the show, Lenox maneuvers through them with skill and humour.
