The royal family will be stopping in Kelowna, but do you know how to interact with them if you see them?
The Government of Canada released guidelines for meeting the beloved royal family and it’s something else.
If you meet any member of the royal family, they are to be called “Your Royal Highness” and then “Sir/Ma’am” as the conversation continues.
Planning to introduce yourself to the royal family? If so, a simple handshake will do, or you can be a little fancier and bow/curtsey.
A man can do a neck bow – just a little more than a nod of the head. A woman can put the right foot behind the left heel, and bend the knees slightly into a curtsey.
When attending an event that the royal family is at, dressing in a fashionable manner is always recommended. One thing to note by the government is that hats are not normally worn at functions after 6:30 p.m.
It’s also been said that the royal family will not be stopping for any selfies. However, if a royal family member somehow makes it into your selfie as a photobomb that is completely okay.
The Duke and Duchess, Prince George and Princess Charlotte will be arriving in Kelowna on Sept. 27. They will stop at UBCO for an exhibition match with the campus’ women’s volleyball team.
This is open to the public, so get your cameras ready!
After, they will take part in the “Taste of British Columbia” festival at Mission Hill Winery. After, the family will fly to Whitehorse, Yukon and finish off their Canadian tour on Oct. 1.
At the end of the day, it's all about being polite, isn't it? The family should enjoy their time in Canada because we Canadians are some of the best (and most polite) people in the world! If you happen to see them, say hello and welcome them to Canada.
