More details released about Kelowna’s royal visitors

If you’re not living under a rock... you will know that the royal family is coming to Kelowna.

It was announced in August that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would be stopped in Kelowna during the Canada tour.

The royal family will be bringing their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte for the trip, as well.

During the Kelowna trip, the family will visit the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus and Mission Hill winery in West Kelowna.

UBCO released some more information about the trip and how people may be able to catch a peek at the British family.

The couple will arrive at UBCO on Sept. 27 at 12:35 p.m. They will take part in a public ceremony in the central courtyard. It will include the dedication of a new Aboriginal art installation that celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Okanagan campus.

A public viewing will be available in the central courtyard and an additional gathering area will be in the commons north of the University Centre building.

The visit will also be televised on large screens in those areas.

After the public event, the family will be greeted by 1,500 UBC students in the gymnasium. They will watch a women’s volleyball inter-squad game.

Students who have tickets to attend will be allowed in this event. No public will be allowed inside the UBCO gymnasium.

If you’re not heading to the university, but want to see the event take place, it will be streamed live. The webcast will be available on the UBC Okanagan Royal Visit website shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Traffic will probably be a lot heavier during the royal visit. UBCO said traffic control officers will be in place to monitor and direct traffic.

People coming to the campus will be able to park in commercial lots on Innovation Drive, north of the campus.
