A teenager will be representing the NDP in the Kelowna–Lake Country riding in October's provincial election.
On Wednesday night, the party announced 19-year-old Justin Kulik will go up against BC Liberal incumbent Norm Letnick.
The UBCO student ran for the national NDP in the federal riding of the same name in 2019.
While still a student at Okanagan Mission Secondary School, Kulik made headlines after starting a petition to stop food waste in Canada that collected nearly 350,000 signatures and earned him a meeting with politicians in Ottawa.
During his federal election campaign in 2019, Kulik outlined his three main priorities as combating food waste, fighting the cost of prescription contraception and investing in sustainable energy.
“I’m privileged to call Kelowna–Lake Country my home, having been born in the riding, and having lived in the riding for a majority of my life. Kelowna–Lake Country is my home,” he said at the time.
“I currently work, live, and study in Kelowna and I look forward to demonstrating to its other citizens that if elected, I would consistently stand up for the people of Kelowna–Lake Country, while considering of course the views of all Canadians.”
The BC NDP party es expected to make an official announcement regarding Kulik's nomination.
The Green Party has yet to announce candidate for the Kelowna–Lake Country riding.
