Kelowna crane collapse memorial on pace for 2024 completion

The fundraising campaign for the Rise Memorial is well underway and nearing the halfway point of the $300,000 goal.

So far $123,100 has been raised as the North Okanagan Labour Council (NOLC) begins its next step in the fundraising campaign.

The NOLC will now be seeking donations from the private sector, regional businesses and the development community.

The memorial will be constructed in Knowles Heritage Park and honour the five lives that were lost in the 2021 downtown Kelowna crane collapse.

Completion of the memorial is targeted for the third anniversary of the of the accident, July 12, 2024.

“The construction documents phase for the memorial will be completed over the coming months and a tendering process to retain a general contractor finalized by February, prior to the 2024 landscape construction season,” writes a NOLC release.

Construction companies that are interested in the project are asked to reach out to NOLC Vice-President, Kelly Hutchinson, at nolcvp1@gmail.com.

Prior to the completion of the project, residents of Kelowna can also expect at least one community event to finalize fundraising efforts and provide information on how to be a part of the project.

The NOLC also announced that it is creating a non-profit organization or foundation that will upkeep and maintain the memorial when it is complete.

Anyone interested in supporting or participating in the non-profit is asked to also reach out to Hutchinson at the same email address.

Donations can be made online at this link.
