National Indigenous Peoples Day is here, and the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society (KFS) and Métis Community Services of BC are both set for a day of celebrations.
KFS’s annual Turtle Island Festival is happening today from 10 am until 7 pm.
As seen in previous years, there will be vendors set up selling local arts and crafts as well as food and drinks for attendees.
There will be various children’s activities as well as the beloved mini powwow showcasing local Indigenous dancers.
The powwow’s grand entry starts at 3 pm.

The free, family-friendly event is open to the public and all community members are encouraged to attend.
As a result of the celebration, the 400 and 500 blocks of Leon Avenue will be closed to traffic.
That is not the only event marking National Indigenous Peoples Day, either.
Over in City Park, the Métis’ Community Services of BC will be hosting its Métis Rendezvous event from 11 am to 4 pm.
That event will include different cultural activities, a scavenger hunt and a 50/50 draw.
Some of the activities include jigging demonstrations, a sashing ceremony, octopus bag ticket sales, bannock and sausages for a snack and a tipi raising ceremony.
Attendees will also get a chance to wander around the Indigenous vendor market that will be set up.
