Downtown Kelowna has become home to a new high-end vintage store.
Casa Modelo Studio opened its doors to the public on March 15 with ‘purposeful, sustainable vintage modern objects.’
Owner Carolina Valdes is a certified interior designer who has always been intrigued by a high-end look for less.
“When I went into this business, I started to realize that the quality of newer items is just not the same as vintage,” she explains. “And when an item is not made well, it just gets thrown out.”
All of the pieces at Casa Modelo Studio are unique, and most have been sourced from the Okanagan Valley.
“I go to great lengths to get special pieces,” Valdes says. “And I love hearing people’s stories when they bring things to me, I love learning about how much the item means to them.”
Casa Modelo Studio sells everything from couches to statement pieces to coffee tables to dinnerware to glassware and more.
"People sometimes think of vintage as old and gross, but I take care of everything," Valdes explains. "They are beautiful, quality items."
For the past two years, Valdes has been a vendor at The Carousel Collective in Summerland, where she still spends every Monday selling curated items.
“I’ve always wanted to have my own store, and it kind of prompted me to open one in Kelowna because I’m from Kelowna,” she adds.
Valdes's daughter, Siena, also started a business selling handmade jewelry from the Summerland location.
"She started her business at 13 with me, and she's super successful," Valdes says.
Casa Modelo Studio, located at 1492 St Paul St, is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.
Valdes adds: "Come check it out."
