BNA’s tasting room now all about smash burgers

The Bad Tattoo rebrand wasn’t the only exciting reveal to happen at Kelowna Beer Fest earlier this month.

Attendees also had the chance to be the first to try a new smash burger in town, courtesy of one of Kelowna’s favourite breweries.

It’s called BNA Burger and it’s the latest venture for the BNA Brewing tasting room at the corner of Clement Avenue and Ellis Street.

Owner Kyle Nixon says his team is “really pumped” to share what they’ve been working on and it’s been quite the process to perfect the art of the smash burger, as simple of a menu item as it may seem.

“There isn’t anything to hide behind,” he noted. “Everyone knows what a burger is supposed to taste like, so we wanted to make sure we nailed the sauce, nailed the patty - nailed it all.”

Kyle’s business partner and wife, Carolyn Nixon says that the response at Beer Fest was very encouraging.

“We actually had return customers within the six-hour event window, which was really cool to see,” she explained.

BoxcAr Kitchen has occupied the kitchen inside the BNA tasting room since it opened in the fall of 2019, so BNA Burger marks a new and homegrown era for the popular space beside the main brewery.

It won’t just be your classic smash burger either, as the menu put together by executive chef Justin Best also features a fried chicken burger, chicken strips, soft-serve cones and more.

But if you are just looking for a tasty beef smash burger, you’ll have the option of a single, double or triple patty and there will also be combo deals available if you’re looking for fries and beer as well.

“BNA Burger hopes to supply everything from lunch to late-night eats and will have options for vegetarian guests,” says a release from Nixon Hospitality.

Opening day for BNA Burger will be Thursday, June 1, which also happens to be BNA Brewing’s eighth birthday.
