City of Kelowna accepting applications for 3 city art opportunities

The City of Kelowna is now accepting applications for three different art opportunities.

That includes the artists in residence, the community art grant and the cultural district banners program.

"We're absolutely thrilled to see what unique and creative projects will come out of these opportunities,” said Christine McWillis, cultural services manager.

“We believe that through these grants, we can foster community building among artists and create a sense of place in Kelowna. We're excited to support artists from all backgrounds in bringing their visions to life."

Applications for the artists in residence program are due July 15.

The 10-week residency will see one artist or a collective create an “immersive”art project that addresses the environment or climate change.

Local artists and organizations are invited to submit an application before Sept. 13 for a community art grant.

“Projects can be in any medium, should animate a public space and encourage engagement from the public,” says a news release from the city.

The city is seeking local artists to design and create new street banners for Kelowna’s Cultural District beginning this winter. Applications are open until June 28 and the selected banners will be displayed each winter for up to 10 years, the city says.

If you are interested in applying, send an email to culture@kelowna.ca.

The city invites interested artists, collectives and organization to a virtual information session on June 11 or June 13 to learn more, ask questions and receive help with applications.
