The City of Kelowna has reopened bids for its proposed Bertram Street pedestrian overpass project.
The overpass will extend between Bertram Street and connect to Rowcliffe Park via the Central Green residential development off Highway 97.
“It will link growing neighbourhoods on the south side of Hwy 97 to downtown and, in the future, to the surrounding active transportation network,” says the city.
“This new connection will improve access to parks, employment, transit, businesses, services and amenities for people working and living on both sides of Hwy 97.”
According to the city, the project has a budget of $5.5 million with nearly $4 million coming from Federal Gas Tax funds.
Work was supposed to begin in spring 2022, however, was delayed due to rising costs.
Now, the city anticipates construction to begin in 2023 and take 14 to 18 months to complete.
The city’s new request for proposal is open until March 16 and is seeking “pre-construction design services with the potential of also providing the construction.”
