The City of Kelowna has opened bids for the future DeHart Community Park project.
New design plans for the park were revealed in March 2023 and were a drastic change from the plans brought forward in the fall of 2022.
“The park construction features a natural children's playground, a large open lawn space, sport courts, pickleball courts, a skate spot area, a parking lot, a dog park, both gravel and paved pathways, pathway upgrades from Sherwood Court to the park, furniture, lighting, natural trails, relocated community gardens, a meadow, and restoration planting,” the city’s bid portal says.
Beside park construction, the city is also accepting bids for DeHart Road improvements, which would include off-site improvements between Lakeshore Road to Gordon Drive.
This will include the addition of an active transportation corridor on the south side of DeHart Road, lighting, boulevard landscaping, lane markings and bus pull-off improvements on Gordon.
Funding for the park became available through the Parks Development Funding program to proceed with design development and construction through 2023-24, the city says.
Bids are open until Jan. 30 at 2 pm.
A report detailing next steps will likely be brought forward to city council once a tender is issued.
