City urges motorists to avoid Springfield and Spall intersection for next 4 weeks

The intersection of Springfield and Spall Roads in central Kelowna can be backed up during rush hour on the best of days.

Starting Monday, for an estimated four weeks, it will be even more chaotic, and the City of Kelowna is urging people to avoid the area if possible.

Localized lane closures are expected around the intersection as crews complete a few much-needed improvement projects.

That includes lengthening the eastbound left turn lane on Springfield and adding dedicated left and right turn lanes northbound on Spall.

“Additionally, improvements will be made to the pedestrian letdowns and crosswalks,” the City noted in a release.

Construction hours will be from 7 am until 5 pm on weekdays, but the City warns that work could occur outside of those hours.

Any evening and weekend work will be done in an effort to minimize the impact on residents and limit the time of active construction in the area.
