Crews knock down early morning house fire

The Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) is investigating the cause of a blaze after a house in Rutland went up in flames in the middle of the night.

At around 2 am, KFD crews responded to a structure fire in the 700 block of Matt Road.

“Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke and flames coming from a window on the second floor,” writes Micah Volk, platoon captain.

“Fire crews were able to quickly knock down the fire and complete a search to ensure all occupants were out of the building.”

Crews managed to contain the blaze to the initial home, preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring structures.

The cause of the fire is unknown and KFD responded with three engines, one rescue unit and a command unit, totalling 15 personnel.
