Eastbound-only traffic on Leckie starts Monday as ATC work begins

Crews will begin construction on an important part of the Leckie Active Transportation Corridor (ATC) on Monday.

The project will extend the Leckie ATC from Hwy 97 to Dilworth Drive, which will effectively link up the Mission Creek Greenway and Okanagan Rail Trail within the city’s ATC network.

Construction is expected to take place from 7 am until 5 pm on weekdays with the occasional overtime work to speed up the project, which is expected to finish up in the late fall.

It will result in traffic pattern changes, starting with eastbound-only traffic on Leckie between Hunter Road and Enterprise Way, which will shift to between Hunter and Dilworth later this spring.

“The project will make safety and accessibility improvements at all intersections along the route, including the addition of new traffic signals to the Leckie and Dilworth intersection,” said Derek Corning, senior project manager.

“The design of the corridor has been shaped by several factors including safety standards, technical analysis, financial feasibility and community input.”

The City notes that the project will require the removal of some trees, but more than twice as many will be planted in their place and it will significantly increase the tree canopy in the area over time.

The $4-million ATC project is funded by a partnership between the federal government through the Canada Community Building Fund.
