Easter Seals event raises over $200K for people with disabilities

Last month, the Easter Seals Camp Winfield created a fundraising event involving an 18-storey skyscraper and 60 rappellers, marking the first year of the event being held in Kelowna.

With the generous donation of $25,000 from the Stober Foundation, the Easter Seals Drop Zone event exceeded its fundraising goal in Kelowna and raised $66,000 for the kids at Camp Winfield.

After being held in four cities, the Easter Seals Drop Zone 2021 event raised a total of $208,141.

“We couldn't have done this event without their support, both in front and behind the scenes, and we are so excited to take the event to new heights in 2022 for our 75th birthday when we hold it at the new 23-storey Landmark 7 office tower being built,” says Lisa Beck, president and CEO of Easter Seals British Columbia/Yukon.

The funds raised will help send children and adults with disabilities to Easter Seals Camp Winfield in Lake Country.

“Stepping over the edge and scaling down the side of a building definitely raised the adrenaline, but it was absolutely worth it to support this amazing organization,” said Matt Hauge, a director at the Stober Foundation.

For over 50 years, Easter Seals has given more than 35,000 campers a week away from home to try new activities such as wheelchair basketball and water polo, and provided them with a place to meet others in a safe and fun environment.

Over six decades, the organization said they have helped over a million families in need through transportation services, child health research, bursaries and more.

Next year’s event is scheduled for September 20 and will take place in an even higher building at the newly constructed Landmark 7.
