The Kelowna Fire Department was called out to Central Green on Sunday night.
Crews responded to a fire in a third floor unit of the building at 1740 Richter St. around 8:45 pm after receiving both an alarm call and 911 call reporting smoke in the hallway.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the unit and water in the hallway.
When they opened the door, the fire had already been knocked down by the sprinkler system and contained to the single unit.
“There was no fire extension to the rest of the building,” said Platoon Capt. Robert Skeldon. “However, there was water damage to multiple units.”
Crews ensured that everyone made it out of the building safely, and no injuries were reported to either the public or firefighters.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, it’s not considered suspicious at this time.
The KFD responded with four engines, a rescue unit, a ladder truck, a command unit and a deputy chief, with a total of 20 personnel.
Police, paramedics and emergency services were on the scene to assist as well.
