The Purple Seahorse pet store has taken in 11 rabbits who were left without a home after the Central Okanagan wildfires, but the animals are at risk of being euthanized.
Kai Heinrich, an employee of the pet store, explains that Kelowna bylaws require these rabbits to be spayed or neutered, which is why he has launched a GoFundMe to raise $3,000 to cover the medical costs to save them.
“These rabbits were left to fend for themselves when someone graciously opened their home to try and help them,” Heinrich writes. “She was unfortunately unable to help and reached out to [The Purple Seahorse] for support.”
“After a thorough checkup, we have come to the conclusion these healthy and well-mannered pets all deserve to have a second shot at companionship.”
Kelowna Veterinary Hospital has offered discounted rates to spay and neuter these rescued rabbits, and $1,000 has already been raised for the cause.
Heinrich adds: “Any and all donations will go towards saving these animals and finding them a loving home.”
