Easter weekend is here and people will be gathering all around the Central Okanagan to spend time with family.
For the region’s unhoused population, Kelowna’s Gospel Mission (KGM) is once again stepping up to serve a holiday meal to shelter residents and those living on the streets.
The Easter feast will be served at noon today and consist of turkey, ham, potatoes and other special treats.
"Holidays can be difficult for people who are suffering and lonely. We make a big deal of the Easter meal in order to draw people out of isolation and into a healing community,” said Carmen Rempel, KGM’s executive director.
“Putting on a beautiful meal is a powerful way to communicate dignity and worth to those we care for, giving a little hope during difficult times."
There will be plenty of volunteers making the Easter lunch happen and that includes MP Tracy Gray and MLA Renee Merrifield.
Hundreds of unhoused Kelowna residents are expected to take advantage of KGM’s Easter meal this afternoon.
