(UPDATE: Feb. 29 @ 11:50 am) - The Kelowna RCMP says that four people were hospitalized in critical condition after Wednesday night's head-on crash in Black Mountain.
The serious collision on Hwy 33 near Garner Road happened shortly after 10 pm.
According to police, a eastbound silver Toyota sedan and westbound black Dodge sedan were involved.
Investigators continue to probe the incident and are now turning to the public in hopes of learning more about the crash.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant dash cam footage from the area that shows either vehicle prior to the crash is urged to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
(UPDATE: Feb. 29 @ 5:54 am): The road has now been reopened, according to DriveBC.
Kelowna RCMP has not yet responded to KelownaNow's request for more information about the incident.
(Original story: Feb. 29 @ 5:20 am): Hwy 33 has been closed in the Black Mountain area of Kelowna for much of the night.
DriveBC said a police investigation is underway following a vehicle incident.
The incident occurred between Garner Road and Toovey Road, closing the highway in both directions.
DriveBC first reported the incident at about 11 pm on Wednesday.
It said a detour is in effect at Springfield Road and Belgo Road.
