Sometimes police officers have to hunt down suspects, but sometimes they fall into their lap.
The latter was the case early Saturday morning, when a woman drove her car into an RCMP cruiser while officers responded to a separate incident in downtown Kelowna.
According to police, the officers were assisting paramedics in the 400 block of Lawrence Avenue when the incident happened around 1:15 am.
The RCMP says the woman backed her white SUV into a parked cop car before trying to drive away and flee the scene.
She was unsuccessful in that regard, and the officers were able to stop her immediately before noticing signs of alcohol consumption on the 53-year-old woman.
When the officer demanded a breath sample from the driver, she refused and was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP).
“Unfortunately, this was but one of the five impaired driving incidents officers investigated over the weekend in the Central Okanagan region,” said Cpl. Michael Gauthier. “Our position has always remained the same, we have zero tolerance for impaired driving.”
The IRP meant the woman was issued a $500 fine and 90-day driving prohibition, and her vehicle was towed away and will be impounded for 30 days.
