A recent spike in toxic drug deaths has led to Interior Health issuing an overdose alert for Kelowna.

The alert was issued on Friday and will stay in place until at least next Friday, May 16.
“The current down/opioid supply is unpredictable in its makeup,” reads the Interior Health warning.
“These drugs often contain benzodiazepines and/or potent tranquillizers in addition to fentanyl and analogues. This often means that there are different mechanisms of action and effects that amplify each other, contributing to a higher risk of overdoses and other complications.”
Substance users are urged to get their drugs checked no matter how or what they consume.
People can get their drugs checked by calling or texting 250-869-7870 or by searching for an available location online at this link.
