Kelowna Kids daycare one step closer to new location

A development permit for a new daycare centre in the Pandosy area was approved by city council this week.

Worman Commercial is preparing to expand the existing Kelowna Kids day care at 2750 Richter Street to a new location at 439 West Ave.

The new “purpose-built” centre would include private outdoor play spaces for up to 48 children.

The property is located close to Abbott Street Park and is within walking distance to several nearby beaches.

When Worman submitted their application earlier this year, the company said they had been trying to expand Kelowna Kids for years but struggled to incorporate a day care space.

The letter said the daycare’s requirements have made it difficult for the developers to meet their needs while also meeting the needs of others within new buildings.

“For this site we decided, rather than develop to the full extent under the zoning bylaw and not be able to accommodate them, we wanted to prioritize the daycare,” says Shane Worman in the application.

The application was supported by a unanimous vote for city council.

Next steps will see the application receive their building permit.
