Kelowna has joined the tulip festival game thanks to KLO Farm Market

Tulip festivals have seemingly become all the rage of late.

They’re the perfect way to truly embrace the arrival of spring by connecting with nature, enjoying the vibrant colours and, of course, snapping a few pictures for a great Instagram post.

The movement has been led by major tulip festivals in the Fraser Valley over the past number of years, with one of those festivals since moving to Armstrong, but now there is a local option.

KLO Farm Market will be hosting its first ever tulip festival this weekend to showcase nearly 20,000 tulips that were planted on their acreage in the fall.

“We just want everybody to enjoy our tulips,” owner Rupi Bhangu told KelownaNow. “We took care of them with love so they look beautiful. It calms you down, it’s one of the best experiences.”

For now, the KLO Farm Market Tulip Festival will just be a two-day thing, from 9 am until 5 pm on Saturday, April 20, and Sunday, April 21, but Bhangu says they may extend it if everything goes well.

The cost is $10 per person, but kids 12 and under get in free, and the tulip display is open to anyone and everyone. You can also pick tulips to take home at a cost of eight for $10.

Bhangu said she will be at the farm and in the tulip field all weekend to meet guests and help guide their experience.

She added that this is her first time taking on an endeavour like this and would appreciate friendly feedback to help shape the experience if they do it again in the future.

“I’ve never done this before, so I honestly need everybody’s help,” she said.

For those wondering when the KLO Farm Market will open for the year, Bhangu explained that there’s a lot of planting work to do and that date is still a few weeks away.

Last year, the market had its opening day on June 3.
