It was another successful year for the Proud for Prom initiative.
Kathy Krasnov from the Proud for Prom committee told KelownaNow that this year’s event on March 2 served over 100 students.
In total, 64 volunteers helped 37 boys and 66 girls get outfitted in stunning suits and gowns for their big day this spring.
“Our belief in this cause inspires us to continue making a difference,” Krasnov explained.
The Proud for Prom initiative was created in an effort to ensure all graduating students can enjoy the prom they deserve, no matter their financial situation.
Students are encouraged to register for assistance during the winter and it all culminates at Boutique Day, which was held this year at Quigley Elementary School on March 2.
A post to the Proud for Prom Facebook page called this year’s Boutique Day a “resounding success” and offered the students a heartfelt congratulations on their upcoming high school graduation.
“It was a pleasure to see your personalities shine through in your choice of attire and accessories,” the post said.
“Also, warm thank you to the loved one’s who accompanied the students. You offered your supportive presence and kind guidance on a very special day.”
Since its start in 2019, Proud for Prom has now helped nearly 350 Central Okanagan students attend prom in dapper suits or gorgeous gowns.
