Kelowna landscapers go above and beyond to help local couple in need

A Kelowna couple who loves their yard, but haven’t had the time or energy to maintain it recently, were lent a helping hand from a group of local landscapers this weekend.

The Yard Angels, made up of several volunteers and a crew from Creative Roots Landscaping, spent their Saturday afternoon working on the yard of Lisa and Warren’s Rutland home.

Lisa is currently battling cancer and while she does that, Warren is working 60 hours a week to support the couple while the rest of his time is devoted to caring for his ailing wife.

After a friend nominated the couple to receive some help from the group, dubbed the Yard Angels, they showed up on Saturday and made it happen.

A dozen hard working people, a skid steer, lawn and garden tools and plenty of donated material from local companies made the magic happen.

“When Lisa and I arrived home on Sunday we were blown away how unbelievably awesome our yard looked,” said Warren.

“I can’t express how happy we are to have had this help. All of the work done would have taken me months to complete and you guys did it in one day.”

Warren says the couple has been enjoying every aspect of their freshened-up yard over the past couple of days and he caught Lisa enjoying a cup of tea outside with a huge smile on her face on Sunday.

This won’t be just a one-time act of kindness from the Yard Angels either, as the project aims to lighten the gardening burden for two more Kelowna residents unable to care for their yards this year.

“It is an inspiring way for us to contribute to the community doing what we do best, landscaping,” says the group.

“Three times a year, spring, summer and fall, a recipient will be chosen through our nomination process.”

It will happens again on the third Saturday of August and November and you can find out more information by clicking this link.
